Depressed parent

Posted by Claire1 on 4 June 2015.

Hi, I am the mother of a 19 year old son who is addicted to cannabis and also takes cocaine. He has been using drugs since he was 17. I am so depressed and desperate. My emotions range from total despair to anger at why he is putting us through this. He works but struggles to do a whole week and when he gets paid on Fri has spent it all by mon. I guess my main problem is trying to understand why he wants to destroy his life like this. He is clever and good looking and should have the world at his feet. He has suffered from depression and still has counselling and takes medication. I am tired of worrying where it will all end.

Think we all worry about where it will all end. I am in a very similar situation. It can wear you out, sometimes we just have to be kind to ourselves. Do what we enjoy it doesn't mean we don't care. Hope my comments help.
