others with experience of post-withdrawal (alcohol)??
Posted by in spain on 1 May 2014.
My husband is 3 weeks into unplanned withdrawal from alcohol following a minor illness when he stopped drinking. Poor professional support although I first mentioned Wernicke's 2 weeks ago, only now we are waiting for a neurology appt to confirm polyneuropathy or warnicke's. he started thiamine yesterday. I feel he is going backwards in terms of weakness, insomnia, mood swings etc and I'd like to hear from anyone who has been through something similar. Mostly today I am really struggling with the thought that I should have started him on thiamine when I read about it and not relied on the doctors (GP admitted yesterday to failing him by not sending him to neurology 2 weeks ago).
