“No one judges you here” Voices of older people affected by a loved one’s substance use

14 Mar 2017

We are very excited to launch a new resource bringing together what we have learnt from our work with older carers.

Since September 2014, Adfam has been funded by the City Bridge Trust to deliver peer support for anyone over the age of 55 in London who has been affected by a loved one’s substance use. A family member’s substance use is a difficult thing for anyone to deal with, and getting older can exacerbate challenges that put a strain on anyone, at any age.

We have learnt a lot about the needs of these carers – the report shares that learning. We believe it will be useful for anyone working with this vulnerable and marginalised group.

Read the report here.

We are working with some amazing advocacy champions from the group to tell their stories much more widely. If you have any meetings or seminars coming up and would be interested in having an older carer attend alongside an Adfam staff member, please email Alison Hill.

The peer support group is still running and new members are always welcome. Find out more here.
