Adfam welcomes Syeda Hussain to the team
29 Jan 2018
My name is Syeda and I am the new Family Support Coordinator for Adfam. Some of you may have already heard of our “Building Family Recovery Project though Positive Family Communication”. This project is funded by Big Lottery until September 2019.
Just a little about myself – I have worked in education, health and social care, and third sector in different capacities. I have a background in volunteer management, facilitating training workshops, and working in and out of East London. I have worked with families, young people (including those with SEND), unpaid carers, and service users diagnosed with mental health etc.
Adfam is building on its 30 years’ experience of championing the needs of families affected by substance misuse to work with parents/carers and young people in Newham. The aim of the project is to strengthen family relationships through parent training workshops, peer support, youth activities, and family activities. We want parents/carers and young people to be part of the consultation process to help design the project, and identify what support they need or like.
As a member of the Adfam team, I am extremely passionate in taking an innovative, and creative approach to encourage families to get involved, have open discussions, overcome barriers such as fear of stigma, and help access the right services.
If you are an organisation, please contact me to discuss how we can collaboratively work together in supporting parents/carers and/or young people affected by substance misuse in Newham.
If you are a parent/carer and/or young person (aged 11-16 years, with parental consent), please contact me for further information.
I look forward to meeting you.
