The 2018 Family Voices Winner

BBC presenter Peter Curran with Family Voices winner Margaret Taylor.

Adfam’s Family Voices Competition allows friends and family members who have lived through someone else’s substance use to express their thoughts and feelings in a creative and constructive way.

Congratulations to this year’s winner, Margaret Walker, who was presented with her prize at our annual Carol Concert at the start of December. You can read her entry below.

Congratulations as well to the runners up: My Beautiful Girl by Jane and Dear John by Anonymous.

Thank You

By Margaret Walker

Thank you Elaine

For my “Bill of Rights”

I’d forgotten I mattered

In this horrible fight.

Loving an addict is a lonely place

You sit there heart broken

Tears rolling down your face.

People judge us for trying

And that’s really sad

When you know inside

You gave all that you had.

I wanted to fix it

I thought that I could

Then you learned me to change things

In the hope that they would.
