Adfam is pleased to announce a new series of training dates for professionals working with families and those affected by a loved one’s substance use. These courses have recently been refreshed to reflect current practice and are designed for practitioners across family, drug and alcohol, health, social care, education, and community settings. Adfam’s training offers practical, evidence-informed approaches to strengthening support for children and families.

Trauma in families affected by substance use
- Friday 10th July 2026, 9.30am – 3.30pm

- Info: This training course delivers essential insights into the issues surrounding parental substance use and safeguarding along with skills for parents who are using drugs or alcohol problematically.

Using CBT to support families affected by substance use
- Tuesday 22nd September 2026, 9.30am – 3.30pm
- Tickets: £100
- Info: This course introduces practical Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) tools that practitioners can use to support affected family members, focusing on strengthening coping strategies, improving emotional regulation, and helping families respond to substance use in ways that reduce harm and protect their own wellbeing.

Hidden Harm – Children Affected by Parental Substance Use
- Thursday 15th October 2026, 9.30am – 3.30pm

- Info: This course explores hidden harm, the often unseen impact of parental substance use on children and young people. Participants will build confidence in identifying risk, understanding barriers to disclosure and using professional curiosity to respond effectively and compassionately to substance use within families.

- Info: This course focuses on the experiences of kinship carers. Participants will explore the unique pressures kinship carers face, the support available to them, and practical ways to strengthen coping and resilience while recognising the emotional impact of caring for a child within the family.

- 2nd & 3rd December 2026, 9.30am – 3.30pm (both days)

- Info: This advanced two-day course deepens understanding of how parental substance use affects children and families. It supports practitioners to recognise risk, understand trauma and strengthen protective factors that improve outcomes for children.
