Your GP sounds absolutely rubbish. Are there any others at the surgery you could try? I’ve heard of people being offered buprenorphine (subutex) to help them detox.
If cold turkey isn’t working could you try a taper (taking fewer each week until you’re down to zero). Its slower and does take some willpower not to slip but helps make the withdrawals a hell of a lot easier.
