My 92 year old mother in law lives with me an my husband. Although I am happily married and expecting a baby I cannot stop thinking about the effects my mother in law’s drinking will have on our baby.
I am not sure where to turn to, but her drinking makes me really angry and worried about us as a family.
I don’t want our baby to see an alcoholic in action and although her drinking is mostly controlled, I still worry about the long terms effects it has on both my marriage and our child. It needs to be added that my husband is adamant that his mum will not go into a care home where she would have to give up the drink, he wants her to be surrounded by the loving family.
I do understand it, but then what about our sanity and our happiness?
My husband is not an alcoholic himself, but I think suffers from all the problems inherited by the circumstances he was brought up in: for example he does not believe that his mum can stop and that lack of alcohol will kill her!
I am not prepared to give up looking for answers for the sake of our marriage and our unborn baby.
Can you suggest any help or anyone I can turn to?
