My husband of 23 years has complex issues. He recently decided to move out for six months saying he needed a break from me and my daughter. He has PTSD from the military a long term problem with alcohol binging depression and last year stomach cancer. He had a history of disappearing for a few days to drink and in the past I have picked up the pieces and tried to carry on when he eventually comes home. We were trying alcohol reduction through a relate counsellor but this did not take and he then decided to move out. He says he lives us and wants to return. Two months in he is saying the cancer is back he is sick and isn’t getting any mental health help or advice. He froze me out of his cancer issues last year so don’t know really what is going on. I want to help him but don’t know how. My daughters mental health is my priority and his erratic behaviour doesn’t help. I didn’t ask him to leave , I don’t know how to handle this situation. I’ve said if he drinks when he has her for the weekend he wont be able have her again. Im so tired of the drama , my family are supportive but think I should walk away. I want him to get help but i can’t make him. Is there anywhere I can get support? I’m working full time running the house on much less money and dealing with my daughters distress and my own badly. Im worn out.

      Hi,

So sorry to read your post and can imagine how worn out you are with what you are having to cope with.

You may like to contact us at The Icarus Trust. We are a charity that provides support for the families around the addict as we know how difficult this can be. We have trained and experienced people you could talk with if you get in touch. They will be able to signpost you to other help that’s available.

You can contact Icarus Trust on help@icarustrust.org or visit our website http://www.icarustrust.org

      Good luck.
