I am a 22 year old whose mother was an alcoholic since i was about 8. Before that there was substance misuse. I am pained to say that my mother has passed away at the age of 36. She passed away over 2yrs ago now but im only just getting to grips with dealing with it & i really want to help other people going through it. I had an awful childhood, it was filled with disappointment and bad memories and this is something i will never forget. Knowing that my mum passed away from alcohol is something i cannot let go, its painful that i didnt get to spend time with her and that we had just started to build a relationship again. She had given birth to my step sister about a year before she died and now i dont get to see her. I just want other parents who do have alcohol issues to be aware of the impact this has on their children and to cherish the time they have with their children as i will never get this.
