My brother is only 22 but is suffering badly with severe mental health issues and alcoholism. I live with him atm and he recently relapsed and things seem to be spiralling out of control. He had to leave his job last week because he couldnt take it anymore. If he’s left alone he will start drinking and then there’s no stopping him – he just drinks in his room and doesnt eat. He has started going to AA meetings, and he does want to stop, but I think he’s not strong enough mentally to deal with it right now. He punched a wall today and may have broken his hand, so i’m hoping if I can get him to a&e tomorrow morning, then there might be something they can do there – maybe they could keep him in because of his mental state. I’m not sure. If anyone has had experience with alcoholism or of an alcoholic family member, then it would be great to hear some advice.

      Hi,

I’m sorry that you are having a bad time due to your brother’s drinking.

If you would like to talk to people who would understand what you are dealing with, and who could maybe offer some help, please contact us at The Icarus Trust. We are a charity that provides support to people who are living with the affect of a family member’s addiction. If you get in touch you could speak with one of our experienced and trained people that may help you with the way forward.

You can contact us on help@icarustrust.org or visit the website http://www.icarustrust.org

      Good luck.
