Hello there. I’m in the US and just came across the forum. My brother has been an alcoholic and addict most of his life. It’s a miracle he’s still alive. He was sober for 2 years after a horrific accident where he was passed out in the middle of the road and struck by a car.

Last month he began drinking again. He stopped after a week long binge around Christmas and has again been sober for a couple of weeks. A few days ago he started again. Once he starts he can’t stop and will usually do something illegal or get hurt and wind up in the hospital.

Our family has helped him 1000’s of times. I guess he’s only alive for that reason.

I’m the only family living near him now. What do I do? My instincts say to let him self destruct. But my heart is having a hard time with that.

I told him I would drive him to rehab but that was it.

Sad and heartbroken.
