Hi there, I’ve found this forum as I don’t know anyone in the same situation as me and tbh I don’t know what todo next for my Mum… She’s 77 and is an alcoholic, she lives alone and doesn’t want to stop drinking. Over the years due to drunken falls she’s had 2 artificial knees, 2 artificial hips and is now very unsteady on her feet, can hardly walk and falls a lot.

I work full time and have a family, plus live 35 mins from her so it’s hard for me to regularly visit and help. And of course I find it very hard when she’s been drinking.

I recently spoke to a therapist who talked me through the idea of ‘intervention’. When I basically give Mum an ultimatum so stop and get help or lose me and her closest family/friends. Seems brutal! But I don’t know what else to try… anyone been through something similar?

      Thanks

      Leonie

      Hi Leonie,

Thank you for posting. It is very hard what you are going through and it can feel very lonely if you have no one to talk with who understands what you are dealing with.

I work for The Icarus Trust which is a charity that offers support for the friends and families of addicts. It is a very hard choice that you are facing so perhaps talking with one of our trained and experienced people may help you to be able to come to a decision about what you do next.

You can contact us on help@icarustrust.org or visit the website http://www.icarustrust.org

      Good luck with everything.
