My daughter is 35 and a single parent to a 9 year old. My daughter drinks too much and doesn’t know when to stop, when I try to talk to her about her problem she tells me she doesn’t drink as much as she used too, as if that is a good thing. My concern is my grandchild, she sees and hears her mum vomit and slurring, and now seems to think it’s the normal thing to expect when her mum has been out.

I no longer give my daughter money as I don’t want to feel that I am funding her drinking, but she is also continually in debt which I have often bailed her out of. She does work hard and bringing up a child as a single parent is not easy. I look forward to seeing my grandaughter but my daughter often asks me to have her over night, which is when she goes out or has friends to her house. I know that the following day is a right off as she will still be drunk and not fit to look after her child. I want to help her but I also feel that my life is on hold. There are no extended family to turn too only my other daughter who is married and just had a baby. Any advice is greatly received. D
