My mother was an alcoholic for years i was not old enough to understand at first, as i got older it became very clear. Coming in late finding her passed out, sometimes if we were lucky the gas hob woukd be on, just the gas and the house ready to explode.
Then coming to terms with what i was seeing my brother died of a drug overdose, it then took my mother just shy of two years to drink her self to death.
At this stage i was 20 but witnessed two people die that could potentially have been avoided.
If i can offer any advice if your worried about someone, say something not to them but to a friend a doctor anyone who will listen i have stood in an undertakers and said goodbye to my dead brother, and witnessed my mother die infront of me in hospital and there was nothing i could do.
If you are worried about someone get them help, i know easier said than done,by the time i was old enough it was to late.
