      Hey there everyone,

First off, I hope all are well and happy. I am not an alcoholic but my brother is. Over these past couple of months he has been showing all signs of ARD. I researched everything and he has all the signs. It’s very heart breaking to see a 56 year old man laying on the floor of my parents spare bedroom thinking he has to go to work when he was fired from there a year ago, also saying he’s going home even though his wife threw him out also a year ago. I don’t live with my parents but I do go there all the time and help put him in bed but then he just slumps to the floor and just wants to sleep there. He’s being doing that for a month! And also my 81 year old mom has to change him like a baby after he soils himself. We live outside Chicago in Cook County and my brother has no insurance at all so getting him to a doctor isn’t possible. I have never dealt with this and I feel so sorry for my mom and dad having to deal with this. My mom thinks he is just going to get up one day and act like nothing is wrong.

Does anyone know what I can do to get him help? My brother hasn’t had a drink in about two months and during the day he can make conversation but early in the evening and early mornings he keeps screaming he has to get to work.

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much for reading this and keep fighting the good fight.

Sorry no one replied to your post.

Most of the people using the forum are based in the UK. We don’t typically use health insurance. I’m not sure what ARD is.

Can you make a referral to social services regarding your brother? Maybe they could step in as your mum shouldn’t be having to change your brother at his age and her age.
