So I just found out today that my brother 26 yrs old has started using heroin and crack cocaine again after being clean for nearly a year. He was in a 12 step recovery rehab programme yet he’s still gone back to the drugs. He’s been using constantly now for 2 weeks and has been kicked off his programme and out of his flat. Two christmas’s ago he nearly lost his leg due to severe injuries from injecting in his groin and nearly has nearly died on more than one occasion. He is also a type 1 diabetic so his health is really poor when using because of the drugs and the diabetes. This was his second rehab programme and last time he only managed a month after coming out (6 months intense rehab) before he was using again. I’m angry and upset, I know this is it now and that he will probably never get the chance to go back into rehab and I fear that he will end up dead Infact I know he will. It’s destroying me and my family, my mum has supported him non stop through his addiction and this is how he treats everyone. I’m really struggling to understand his addiction and just feel he is being so selfish and feel very lost with everything. Thanks… That feels better to have got that off my chest, but advice or support would be massively welcomed x

      Hi Charlotte,
it is good to get things off your chest by talking. You obviously are having a really bad time worrying about your brother. If it would help The Icarus Trust is a charity that supports the friends and families of addicts and has trained volunteers that you could talk with. Maybe talking with one of our ‘Family Friends’ would help you to make some sense of it all and find a way ahead.

      Good luck.
