Hi everyone
My husband is getting help for his drinking problem and is starting a detox at home in 2 weeks for the first time.He will have to go to the clinic every day for meds and a check up. We’ve got no idea what to expect and I feel scared and really down at the mo.I feel really overwhelmed by the whole thing. Is anyone else going through this/been through it ?

Hello!
My boyfriend went to rehab last year and I can relate to all the emotions you’re feeling. I was terrified and was so scared of the outcome.
Please stay positive – it’s great to know that he is starting a detox and wants to get his life on track. Be as supportive as you can but also put your self first.
It’s very over whelming and will not be easy – even after the two weeks. Going to Al Anon meetings will help you if you need to be in the company of others going through a similar situation. x

Hi Sunshine,
Thanks for posting. I’m sorry that you are feeling so scared and overwhelmed by whats happening.
I’m glad to hear that your husband is getting help but you also might like some support too. I work for a charity called The Icarus Trust. You may like to contact as we provide support for people having to deal with the addictive behaviours of a partner or family member.
If you get in touch you could talk to one of our experienced trained people who might help you to make sense of what is happening.
You can contact us on help@icarustrust.org or visit the website http://www.icarustrust.org
All the best.

Wishing your and your husband so much luck with his detox. No experience of alcohol addiction so no advice, sorry. Try not to get too overwhelmed. The main thing is he has decided to do something about his addiction and that’s good. Maybe just take it one day at a time whilst he is going through the detox. I don’t thing it is going to be easy but it will definitely be worth it in the end. Sending you both lots and lots of luck.
