What is your experience with rehab? What actually happens there? What about helped or didn’t help. Do you recommend it? How much does it cost? How long is the stay?

Hi thistim3
i think rehab only works if the addict really wants to quit and become sober as I think it’s a choice if they want help to get that devil off thier shoulder. They need to follow a program and be encouraged how well they are doing and having someone who has been there going through what they think at the time is impossible as the cravings are too much to bere they can help with suggestions and ideas of what to do.
I wish that more of our loved ones could see how much help is there if only they are willing to accept they need help and more importantly want the help.
I don’t know how long your loved one has been an addicted but it’s draining for us as we are not specialist in this but just trying to get through day by day hoping and praying that a trigger doesn’t arrive at a bad time or place for them and that they can handle that devil chirping away at them.
take care

I am also interested in peoples experience of rehab for their family members. Our son’s addiction has got increasingly worse and has now taken over his life. He wants to go to rehab. I have no idea really how you find the right one or how successful they are. If anyone has been through this and is able to advise I’d be grateful
thank you

I feel rehab completely altered his mindset, while there he got so used to people saying what he did or said was right, and he interpreted it as everyone else in your life is the problem which is why you use, he said some people didn’t return to their families and started new lives miles away to stay clean
The second time he came out really determined to stay clean but he did not really come back into the family life, it feels like he was institutionalised at rehab and that’s how he copes, he’d stay up in the bedroom, buy his own food, cook his own meals, go running, go gym, up at 4.30 bed at 8
He’s found God and reads lots of spiritual help books so feels he’s the best version of himself, which is amazing but it’s almost at the detriment to our family I feel
