my husband and I are totally at a loos regarding what is best for our son. he’s 23, still living at home and has shown he can be a caring, loving and generally ‘good guy’. We became aware he was ‘dabbling’ in smoking drugs a couple of years ago, when he would come home smelling strongly of what we believe to be cannabis, would become very argumentative, verbally aggressive followed by sleeping solidly for up to 20 hours. He has not been able to hold down a job for longer than 6 months at a time; and according to him, it is always someone else’s fault that these jobs end! He has always denied any involvement with drugs, no matter how we have approached the subject. Presently, he is out of work again; spends all day in bed, goes out in the evening to meet with his friends, comes in about midnight. He has become very clever at, we believe, covering his tracks – if he comes in whilst we are still up, he will go upstairs and change his clothes before he comes to talk to us, or will spray deodorant on himself, or change his clothes in his car. It has now become evident that he is stealing, from his dads shop till. We suspected he has been doing this for a while, again when we have broached the subject, he has denied it. We really are at a loss as to where to turn. We know some of his mates and have considered approaching them to try and establish if/how often he is using drugs. I feel like I want him out of the house, but my husband wants to just let things take their course!! Please, any advise/support is welcome. Thank you
