10 years ago, my 18 year old son, who had abused drugs for about 4 years , had a psychosis. It was horrific and lengthy, and scared him to death. As a result of this he gave up everything drug like and alcohol. He has had nothing since, until recently. He had been referred for depressive anxiety and BPD, as he still struggles to cope with the stress of life. Then, his girlfriend left him a few months ago. Cue a trip to Thailand to try to get over things and an introduction to ketamine, a drug that wasn’t around 10 years ago. He tried it, no side effects, no psychosis. Also diazepam. He has been back nearly two months, and as the ketamine snd diazepam use has escalated, so his mental health has deteriorated. I feel sick with worry. Having gone through all of this 10 years ago, and to be going through it again is heartbreaking. I just don’t know what to do, and I worry he won’t pull out of it. He gave up for 10 days, but his car broke down and he couldn’t cope with the stress so started again. Ridiculous as that sounds. He’s been to the Forward Trust, the mental health services will help him but he needs to be off drugs first. I’m so tired and worried. I’m almost hoping for another psychosis so he stops this. Thanks for reading. Angie
