Yeah they ached and cramped. But to be honest everything did. My legs were the worst especially at night. I tried to help it by doing a long walk at night then a hot bath before bed. If its constant in your arms and hands it may be something else.

Lkath, I only had aching arms when I was withdrawing. I think you definitely need to see a doctor if you notice a different smell. Could just be a urine infection but please dont leave it untreated. You dont have to tell your doctor if you dont want to but it may help you to stop for good.

Codeine14years, to be totally honest whatever dose you stop on you will probably still get withdrawal symptoms just hopefully not as bad as stopping from a high dose. Well done on cutting down from what you have though. I also used to take nurofen plus and have also had a stomach ulcer from it. Swore to myself now I would never touch them again. There worse than the codeine on it’s own because of the ibuprofen. I know the withdrawals are scary cos they feel horrendous but remember there very temporary, they last 1-2 week. Like a bad cold. And then there gone forever. Worth it in the long run and you can get your health back. Good luck 🙂

The book is a fab idea. I’m on 3 weeks and 3 days of totally codeine free. And I feel so much better in myself. The craving is still there. But I’m concentrating on exercising to get my mind of it and get healthy again. If the cold Turkey works for you than that’s good it will be quicker just a bit rough at first. And your right there isnt enough out there about over the counter addictions.

Hi sinead that is a lot of nurofen plus a day. Have you not suffered health problems? I’m not judging i was also taking nurofen plus but around 15-20 a day and that has seriously messed my stomach up. I would advice you maybe tapering if you can as the side effects will be pretty intense at first. Good luck

Hi roger, you may still get some withdrawal symptoms but they wont be as severe if you have come down slowly. Well done.

Has anyone got any advice for insomnia? Iv gone from 90mg a dose down to 16mg so in 2 days I’m going to stop them completely. My withdrawals haven’t been as bad as usual this time but I cannot sleep 🙁 my heart beats too fast and I can’t settle and I’m only 3 hours a night. Has anyone any advice? Does anyone else also suffer dizziness coming off them?

Roger, if you are still on high doses of codeine you will be suffering with constipation. The best thing to help it is lots and lots of water and exercise. If you manage to lower your doses or quit codeine it will eventually subside and you will more likely have the opposite problem. Good luck

It’s a lonely world isn’t it when it such a normal pain killer given for so many reasons and we end up so reliant on it. The imodium works and honestly the physical symptoms do go quickly it’s the cravings once their gone thats hard to manage. Im not at all encouraging you to take it but if you are maybe buy some normal cocodomal from chemist as it’s such a lower dose and take that instead to help with the symptoms and slow come off it. That’s my plan anyway but if yours doses are quite high u many struggle dropping that low. And please be careful at work, I’m not judging you iv been there and done it at work, but if you get caught it could ruin your whole career. I also have always had anxiety but since this addiction it’s been 100 times worse and makes me struggle with so many things now. Another reason to kick this horrible addiction. I can’t bring myself to tell anyone but this forum has really helped me the past week. Good luck and keep us updated.

Shift addict, I really feel for you and understand completely. To help with the withdrawals you need to lower the dose slowly. They honestly only last around a week the symptoms and the physical side usually shifts. Have you got any annual leave? Iv chose this weekend to start my lower dose and to come off because I have 9 days off work so if the symptoms are bad I can be at home. I also do shift work for adults with mental health and I know what it’s like when you just want to get through it. I have also found I am far more irratble on the codeine than when I’m off it. If you need anyone to chat to I’m here. Trying lowering your dose for a few days and let your body adjust. Also keep imodium close by to help with the diareah that’s what I do. Good luck.
