Wow he’s done great to get on day 5. All he and you have to think is it always gets better and then there will be a point where he feels better than before he started using ! He’ll also be healthier and look better basically everything is a plus. You’ve done really well to stick by him well done
dadictParticipantHi Janette,
What drugs is he withdrawing from ? What day is he on now ? I myself am currently withdrawing from codeine I’m on day 10 clean and starting to feel better I have my wife who is a rock just like yourself, cold turkey is very dangerous especially if he is coming off heroin but if he’s a good few days in now he’s probably over the worst of the physical stuff it will be the mental side now, the depression etc as his brain isn’t able to produce the happy chemicals that the drugs made it do and won’t be able to for a while yet, trust me I know I’m at this stage now. Hope he and you are doing okay and keep us posted and I’ll offer any advice I can
dadictParticipantYeah Unlikely the only time tapering is an option is if someone is in control of the tablets otherwise you just take the lot I know I would, last time I went cold turkey I did end up with severe dehydration I couldn’t keep a single thing down for 5 whole days no water food nothin I ended up in hospital on a drip and several blood tests it was a shitty week violent vomiting for 5 days straight every 30 mins my wife said I was grey ! Then I relapsed 🙁 how you doing ?
dadictParticipantHi shift you’re not alone always remember that, there is this forum for a start and all of us going thru similar things to yourself some of us have quit, some of us have relapsed, some of us are working out how to quit so many people who can offer so much advice. I would tho very much recommend that you tell someone close to you about the scale of the problem, me telling my wife was probably the best decisions for 2 reasons, 1 she is there to support me and help me thru and 2 she understands what I’m going thru to a certain extent so she is patient with me. IMO cold turkey is the best and most straight forward way to go, tapering is dangerous unless someone else is controlling it for you where as for me (just my opinion) cold turkey gets it done and dusted in about a week (physical withdrawal) just imagine if you stopped now ? By next weekend your body will be almost back to normal, just make sure you take in lots of water, eat fruit and veg things that are easy for your body to break down, take multi vitamins, use ibuprofen for the aches and hot baths omg hot baths are the best ! I’m currently going into day 8 and my body is just about normal I’m a little uncomfortable and still some RLS but excercise is key and helps so much with both the physical and also the mental side which may or may not come afterwards. I hope you manage to get clean all the best you can do this !!
Also unlikely sorry to hear about your accident and consequent relapse I hope you manage again to get clean, all the best.
dadictParticipantHi Roger
I’m not sure if Unlikely is around now ?
Are you needing someone to talk to or some help/advice ?
dadictParticipantKeep it up you’re doing great well done ! I’m on day 2 now the aches have passed but still really fidgety and the lack of energy is the worst I’m debating buying some 5-HTP to help boost my energy and hopefully allow me to sleep a little better
dadictParticipantThanks Amelia I’ve just replied to you on another thread I think. Open up and tell someone, a parent, parents are always gunna stand by you. And yes 100% they are easy to access too easy, codeine over the counter should be banned
dadictParticipantEvening Guys.
First of all thanks for sharing your stories here for me and anyone else to read, reading about other people going thru the same thing really helps people including myself. I’m going to share my story with codeine addiction so that it might help someone else and also maybe I can gather some support from the people on this thread.
This is the first time I’ve spoke openly to anyone other than my Wife and Mother about this. I’m 32 I’ve struggled with cording on and off since 18 the last year or 2 been the worst. I’m currently as we speak going cold turkey from 409mg a day N+ the aches have set in and so have the toilet breaks. I’ve done this a few times so I know I can beat the physical withdrawal symptoms although it’s still 3 or 4 days of pure hell and discomfort. My weakness is relapsing hence why I’m here AGAIN after quitting many times in the past. Infact the last time I quit I actually ended up in hospital it was that bad I couldn’t keep food or water down for 5 days and ended up severely dehydrated it took 24 hours of blood tests and been hooked up to drips to get me back on my feet but I left hospital a bit beaten but drug free. The physiological side of withdrawal was the worst part I just couldn’t deal with anything I couldn’t tend to my son I couldn’t do the housework it was awful which then in turn drive me to the closest boots and the rest is history. I’ve got a plan for the depression this time I’m going to be doing nightly walks for exercise, I’m debating on attending a local meeting depending on how bad it gets, set myself small daily goals to achieve. I’ve also gave my wife my cards and asked that I’m not to be given any money so it takes the temptation away of buying them. As I said I’m 32 I’ve got a beautiful Wife and not 2 beautiful children and also a new job, I am determined I will never touch codeine ever again ! I’m now off to soak in a nice hot bath this is easily the best way to deal with the RLS. I’m here if anyone would like to talk or discuss their own issues.
