A lot of doctors are not informed about codeine addiction. Before seeing my current one, I saw a different one who just shrugged. I am on 2 x 30mg per day and I also suffer with endless constipation, so I know where you are. I tried to reduce to 1.5, but after 4 days I couldn’t go on, explosive diarrhoea. I put off owning up to the doctor, but I really think you have to, and I hope yours is helpful. Stay in touch. Roger
rogerParticipantI was on the same dose and took the same action. Mine was sympathetic and helpful but a very slow taper is the only answer. I suppose it depends on your doctor.
rogerParticipantI don’t know how to start a new post but just want to ask a question. I have tapered down to 60mg per day. I want to stop altogether now. Would I get horrendous withdrawal symptoms? Thank you
rogerParticipantThank you. I have an appointment with my GP in April with the intention of coming clean about the codiene and the other rubbish. I have put this off for a long time believing that I could do it alone. Today, the pain drove me back to the pills and I decided to reveal all to the doctor. I have tried and tried to get off these horrid pills and I always fail. Am I going down the right path?

rogerParticipantNot at all. Thank you
rogerParticipantWhat would you call a high dose. I take between 90 – 120mg per day?
rogerParticipantHow do any of you cope with the constipation pain? These are killing me, thanks, Rog
rogerParticipantDear unlikely addict
Tell me your ‘quitting plan’.
Thank you
Rog
rogerParticipantDear unlikely
You broke your back? How awful – I am so sorry.
I can’t imagine the pain. It puts all my troubles with codeine into perspective.
With respect
Rog
rogerParticipantHave you successfully quitted the codeine?
Roger
rogerParticipantMy situation is nearly identical Unlikely Addict. Are you still contributing to this forum?
