This is my first post and I’m interested to hear of any experience with alcohol related brain damage. My mum has been in hospital 7 weeks, she got covid and went into an induced coma with oxygen support for a week and a half. She came out of that and is waiting a short term residential placement before going home with carers to help her. She has been an alcoholic for 30 years with some breaks but has never kicked the habit despite regular attendance at AA meetings and two 6 month stints in rehab. She had a fibro scan which says she has fibrosis but not end stage liver disease. Her consultant called me to say he things she has alcohol related brain injury. I am kicking myself for not asking more and await him calling me back. I think he must be referring to Korsakoff syndrome. He said she has no sense of time/where she is and is replacing words for other words that have no context. Realistically, can she survive this? Any experiences appreciated. Thank you.
