I have been supporting my daughter who is transgender female for almost 9 months now. She came home from London with traumas to deal with including rape and sexual abuse by a family member (New’s to us) that she experienced as a child.

She is currently on a reducing prescription for Valium. She has made huge progress having withdrawn from several substances aside from the Valium.

I would like to hear from anyone who may have supported a family member in a similar situation? I am at a loss as to how to help her from this point. We have so far not dealt with the traumas or managed to get her to attend any group sessions provided for free by local charity that is providing her prescription.

We were paying for private therapy when she was first home, but she has been unable to tolerate the ‘heavy’ therapy since her Valium has decreased. Inevitable I guess.

How do we continue with the Valium withdrawal knowing that she hasn’t addressed the traumas that will inevitably cause her to relapse?

      M
