My boyfriend is a recovering heroin addict. Lately I’ve been concerned that he’s using again. I have never used drugs, therefore, I’m very naive to things sometimes. I suspect he’s using again but I have no actual proof. I want to ask him about it but I don’t know how to go about it.

My suspicions come from how long he is in the bathroom sometimes. He’s usually in there anywhere from an hour to 2 hours a day. I know he goes in there a lot and has trouble moving his bowels (he says due to past opioid addiction and he’s currently taking Suboxone, as well). And he also works long hours at a physically demanding job so he says sometimes he falls asleep in there while he’s trying to go to the bathroom and playing on his phone. These are all believable answers but at the same time I feel like I’m being naive.

I also found a cut straw in his cigarette pack one time. I asked him about this and he says he uses it to pick his teeth. (Basically saying he uses it instead of a toothpick). I believed that at first as well but he still has that same straw in his cigarette pack. This has been months ago.

I dropped it and haven’t mentioned it since but it’s still bothering me and not 100% sure I believe him but have not actually found any drugs. Please help me on how I approach this. Thanks.
