Hi, I am looking for advice or any help or possibly points of view from others who have maybe been through the same situation as me. My Husband is addicted to Dihydrocodiene, currently I have no idea how many he takes a day as he says he is trying to come off them, I found a tin of 132,,120mg slow release tablets in his drawer, along with 100 30mg tablets, he has been taking these for 15 years after an operation when they were prescribed now he buys them, I have no ideas how much they cost, I’m desperate for him to get help but he will not do it. I’m desperate to get him to see what these tablets are doing to him. Last night I tried again to get him to open up about it and he just turns it to I don’t love him or I can leave as he is now saying I’m acting like his mother and he can do what he wants. I’m scared he will die, I’m scared for his life.

Hi there,
Sorry to hear about your situation. I would encourage him to discuss this with his GP in order for him to get either a referral to a specialist drugs service and or regime for a reduction plan. He would need to reduce gradually to avoid withdrawal symptoms which for him would be awful. It’s not just a psychological addiction but a physical dependency going on here. Does he admit he needs help?
