My story is too long to tell, but at 17 my son started taking drugs. For 8 years it was hell, then he stopped, became a vegetarian non smoker and became mentally ill after a breakdown. He was in an acute ward for 3 years and eventually was forced to take anti psychotic drugs. He was like a zombie for years then started again taking drugs and drinking. He had liver damage, fell and broke his ankle which mended badly due to his psychotic behaviour after having to be drug free for the operation. It never healed and he has severe bone disease with pain running through his body. He takes legal highs to dull the pain. Painkillers don’t work. He cries a lot. His father has given up on him and I am tired with it all not seeing an end. We don’t visit him. He has been supported by the mental heath in accommodation but they have now withdrawn assistance because of his aggressive behaviour and drug taking. I want to support him with his leg which needs amputating. He is frightened and will not attend appointments. My husband will not agree to my supporting him and would stop me. I am 65 and emotionally drained. I don’t know what to do and time is slipping by.
