Hi everyone. I’ve read through this page looking for hope and I think I’ve found some. I’ve been taking Nurofen Plus for almost 3 years now, taking anywhere between 32-64 tablets every evening around 5pm. It’s the feeling of calmness, happiness, it makes everything so much easier. Obviously I want to stop. I need to stop. It’s a disgusting addiction and I’m ashamed of myself. Nobody in my life knows about this. Not my partner (now ex), not my kids, family, friends, work colleagues, nobody.

I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve been on Google searching for nearby pharmacy’s and planning my route around pharmacy’s I haven’t been to recently.

2 or 3 of them have recently stopped serving me (which i suppose is a good thing!) and it’s given me a wake up call.

I just cannot stand the withdrawal.

I feel awful with myself, angry, short-tempered, tired, weak. The restless leg at night is a killer, makes you actually cry!!

The random and consistent toilet trips where anything can happen! The stomach aches and body pains. It’s all just horrendous! I’ve tried to taper but before I know it I’m back to taking ridiculous amounts and so I’ve decided to go cold turkey. I’ve tapered a little, for the past 4 days I’ve been taking 32 – which is still an awful lot but I just don’t want to do this anymore. I don’t want to spend the anymore time looking for pharmacy’s, it’s embarrassing 🙁

This is why I’ve been looking for hope and advice on how to get through the withdrawal. I forget their name but someone had some good advice by treating it as flu like symptoms, so I’ll try that. I’m just hoping I can get through these next few days without it. If anyone has any advice at all on things to help with the withdrawal pains (and feelings!) please share, I’ll try anything!!

And as some of you are aware, the doctor’s don’t help! I’ve been to the doctor’s and told them I was addicted around 8 months ago. They did some blood checks and told me I was ok (shockingly!!) and that now I “just have to stop taking them” – Thanks Doc, why didn’t I think of that?!

Thank you all for sharing your own personal experiences with this.
