Hi Frankie. Thank you so much. Hope you are well. I realised I couldn’t stop taking them until I really wanted to. As you are on this website It seems you have reached that stage too.

    That’s a good start.

I was taking about 360mg per day for 5 or 6 years. I just got used to it. I didn’t think about stopping in that time. It seems crazy now. I stopped a few times when on holidays( for 6 or 7 days) and it was always uncomfortable trips. Always on the lookout to see if I could get some. Couldn’t wait to get home and take them again.

The thought of voluntary cold turkey didn’t appeal.

in the end I cut down in about 6 weeks. It wasn’t plain sailing because I sometimes thought I ‘deserved’ extra ones.

Each week I reduced by roughly about 60mg. It was a see- saw pattern. I would take 360mg and 300mg alternate days week 1..Then 300mg and 240mg week 2 etc… Each week my baseline level reduced. Everyday I was on the lower dose I would look forward to next day etc.

IMPORTANT -one thing to bear in mind is that you won’t always feel the euphoria.. Some days you still will. You have to be aware that you are no longer looking for this. A case of no pain no gain for those few weeks.

I NEVER thought I would be free of them.

    You CAN def do it

Hi Nic. Sounds like a pretty rough situation to deal with. Not something you can prepare for as it’s so random. I’ve seen many people before work alcohol issue for professional reasons.

How is he when he’s sober? does he regret his behaviour? I guess the big question is does he want to change?

I can see why you cant confront him this weekend. But you do obviously need to talk to him about his feelings about why he behaves as such.

    take care

I’m not sure if this is still running but wondering how people are doing. I was on codeine for 6 years and dependency crept up on me. I tapered down and stopped it in the end. The first week was the worst for me then it got better after day 10.

I’m not sure how you are but wish you well.I can offer advice if needed. Good luck

Hi. I wonder how people are getting on here. I’ve been inadvertently been taking codeine for about 6 years regularly. Upto 360mg daily. I have only taken a week or so off by accident when I have been on holidays et and have felt awful. It didn’t occur to me at first that it was due to the codeine. I’ve currently reduced to 60mg daily for last few days and had been tapering down. its is difficult.

I’ve been very impressed by people on here that have done cold turkey for weeks.
