Faith, Families and Recovery Forum

Adfam and Alcohol Change UK organise a joint forum, exploring the role faith can play in people’s recovery from substance issues, and family members. Find out more about our latest event below. All of our events are held online, via Zoom.

  • Date: Thursday 6th June 2024, 10-11am
  • Topic: Aunee Bhogaita on addiction and recovery
  • Tickets: Free
  • Register here

Aunee Bhogaita has first-hand experience of childhood sexual abuse, anorexia, domestic violence, self-harm, and alcohol addiction; and her story reflects the experiences of many others.

What distinguishes her story is her identity as a South Asian woman, coming from a cultural context where subjects such as addiction and trauma are frequently cloaked in shame and stigma. Being a South Asian woman navigating theses complexities while also being a mother intensified that shame and stigma for her.

She now works to shed light on the reality of addiction and trauma within the UK’s South Asian communities. Through sharing her journey, she hopes not only to bring attention to these issues, but also to highlight the efforts being made toward resolution and transformation. Her ultimate goal is to inspire change, foster dialogue, and offer support to those on similar journeys. Join us on Zoom on 6th June as we hear from Aunee.
