Support for family members of veterans and serving military with substance use problems

Adfam has received funding from the Veterans Foundation and the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust to provide remote one to one support to adult family members of veterans and serving military with substance use problems. The support will follow our highly successful ‘Adfam@Home’ model, providing support to individuals via Zoom or telephone in the comfort of their own home or other chosen confidential location.

We are taking referrals from Veterans and serving armed forces support services such as the Armed Forces Network, Outside the Wire and Tom Harrison House, as well as self-referrals from family members themselves.

The service is open to any adult family member of someone who has or is currently serving in the British armed forces and also has drug or alcohol problems. This includes partners, parents, siblings, adult children, grandparents, step-parents or any other family relationship. The service provides twelve one to one sessions, usually weekly, with a qualified and experienced family support professional, who is trained to understand the specific circumstances of military families.

Adfam knows that the loved ones of those with drug or alcohol problems often suffer as a result and need support in their own right to cope with the impacts on them, manage their relationships and thrive.
