Cambridgeshire Kinship Support

Thanks to funding from Cambridgeshire Community Fund, from January 2021 Adfam is able to offer remote support sessions to kinship carers (living in Cambridgeshire) affected by a loved one’s substance misuse. We will be providing 6 group or 6 support sessions, delivered via Zoom or telephone.

To request support, please complete the form below. We will be in touch and once we’ve checked out that what we can offer is appropriate for you, your group or support sessions can begin.

In order to participate you will need to have private use of a room and an appropriate device for your sessions. Please note that use of Zoom is required to participate in group sessions. We will also discuss any previous support, personal circumstances and ask about your mental health to ensure that providing you with remote sessions is safe and suitable for you.

What we offer

6 group sessions from a skilled and experienced group worker

Group sessions will involve around 6 people who are in similar circumstances to you. By bringing you together we can reduce isolation and share our experiences, successes and challenges. The sessions will cover topics designed to help everyone. They will also provide plenty of time for connection, friendship and chatting. We learn so much from others with experience – not just experts or professionals. The group will run for one hour per week for six weeks.

6 sessions of individual support from a skilled and experienced worker

Support sessions will provide you with the opportunity to explore how your kinship care role is affecting you, and to provide support with how to make changes if you would like to. If you would also like support and information relating to substance use then we can provide that too.

Our experienced worker will spend time listening to you, and over the six sessions may also introduce a range of topics which we have found to be helpful to kinship carers. Our worker will (metaphorically!) walk alongside you as you plan a way forward and may make suggestions for further support or advice if appropriate.
